Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Phnom Penh Arrival

Phnom Penh Itinerary - Planet Travel Advisor

Upon arrival at Phnom Penh Airport, meet and transfer with the local guide to the hotel for check-in if the room is available before 2 pm, or drop off luggage at the lobby and start the tour. First, visit Wat Phnom, the center of Phnom Penh and the source of the city’s name. At 27 meters above sea level, it’s the highest point in the area. As a town grew around it, the settlement became known as Phnom Penh, meaning "Hill of Penh." It is the city’s zero point. Next, visit Wat Unalom (Buddhist Monastery), the headquarters of one of Cambodia's most revered Buddhist patriarchs. The pagoda also includes a post-Angkorean stupa.

After lunch at a local restaurant, visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, once a high school, later an interrogation prison known as S-21 during the Khmer Rouge era, and today a genocide museum. Return to the hotel for leisure time.

Day 2

Phnom Penh - Siem Reap by Land

Phnom Penh Itinerary - Planet Travel Advisor

Breakfast at the hotel. Visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, two of the most striking buildings in the capital and among the finest examples of Khmer architecture. Initially constructed in 1866 by the French, the Royal Palace is home to the current King Sihamoni. The neighboring Silver Pagoda has a floor of 5,329 solid silver tiles. Continue to Central Market, where our guide will introduce you to the available local snacks, drinks, and fruits. This landmark building, Psar Thmei, is often called Central Market and is known for its vast domed hall resembling a Babylonian ziggurat.

Return to the hotel for check-out, then drive to Siem Reap. The drive takes about six hours, with stops to visit Spiker Market in Skun and the ancient bridge called Spean Neak in Kampong Kdei. Upon arrival in Siem Reap, check-in at the hotel and enjoy dinner alone.

Continue to Ta Prohm, known as the “Tomb Raider” temple, where nature intermingles with ancient ruins.

Return to the hotel for a lunch break (lunch on your own). In the afternoon, explore Angkor Thom, with its 50-tower temple and iconic carved faces. Enter through the South Gate and walk along the 8m high wall to the less-touristy Death Gate. Visit Phimeanakas and Baphuon temples, and end the afternoon with a visit to Bayon temple. Enjoy the sunset from Phnom Bakheng, offering views of the Western Baray and Angkor Wat. Return to the hotel; dinner on your own.
