Discover the Desert Castles and Azraq Oasis

The Desert Castles and Azraq Oasis from Amman tour is a one-day journey into Jordan’s Eastern Desert, combining early Islamic architecture, UNESCO-listed art and one of the country’s distinctive wetland environments.

After pickup in Amman, travel east to Qasr Kharana, where you can walk through the rooms, corridors and central courtyard of this well-preserved desert castle. Continue to Qasr Amra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its remarkable Umayyad frescoes, including hunting, bathing and celestial scenes.

After a lunch stop at a local restaurant at your own expense, the tour continues to Azraq Wetland Reserve, where natural pools and wetland habitat attract migratory birds. You will also visit Azraq Castle, the black-basalt fortress associated with the oasis’s long strategic history.

Day-01 Amman – Qasr Kharana, Qasr Amra & Azraq – Amman
Begin with pickup from your hotel or a designated meeting point in Amman before travelling east into Jordan’s desert landscape.

Your first stop is Qasr Kharana, a well-preserved early Islamic desert castle. Walk through its corridors, rooms and central courtyard while your guide explains the architecture and historical setting of the site.

Continue to Qasr Amra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site particularly known for its surviving frescoes. Inside, see paintings depicting hunting scenes, bathing rituals and celestial imagery, offering an unusual glimpse into Umayyad-period art and culture.

Stop at a local restaurant for a traditional Jordanian lunch. Lunch is at your own expense and is not included in the tour price.

After lunch, continue to Azraq Wetland Reserve. Walk through the oasis environment and look for migratory birds that use the wetlands as a resting habitat.

The day also includes Azraq Castle (Qasr al-Azraq), a historic fortress constructed from black basalt. Explore the castle before beginning the return journey to Amman.

At the end of the tour, return to Amman for drop-off at your hotel or preferred location.
