Amman Guide 2026 - Things to Do and Visitor Tips
Plan your trip with this Amman travel guide covering top sights, food, neighborhoods, transport, day trips, where to stay, and practical visitor tips.
Discover Jordan beyond the usual sightseeing route on this 8 Day Jordan Camel Trekking Tour, combining the country's major historical landmarks with three days of traditional desert travel through Wadi Rum. Begin in Amman before traveling south through Madaba, Mount Nebo and the Dead Sea, then spend a full day exploring Petra, including the Siq, Treasury, Royal Tombs and time for independent discovery.
The experience changes pace in Wadi Rum, where you meet your Bedouin guide and travel by camel through sandstone valleys, sand dunes, canyons, natural springs and ancient inscriptions. Two nights are spent at private bivouac camps beneath the desert sky, followed by a final night at a fixed Wadi Rum camp.
With airport transfers, accommodation, scheduled meals, site entrance fees and guided experiences arranged within the itinerary, this tour combines Jordan's cultural highlights with a genuine multi-day desert adventure. Book your Jordan camel trekking tour and experience Petra and Wadi Rum from a completely different perspective.
Upon arrival at Queen Alia International Airport, meet the tour representative before continuing by private transfer to your hotel in Amman. The drive takes approximately 50 minutes.
After hotel check-in, the remainder of the day is free. You can rest after your flight or spend some time independently exploring the surrounding area.
After breakfast, leave Amman and travel to Madaba, home to the well-known sixth-century mosaic map preserved inside St. George's Church.
Continue to Mount Nebo, traditionally associated with Prophet Moses. Visit the historic religious site and enjoy views across the Jordan Valley and toward the Dead Sea.
The journey continues to the Dead Sea, where you have leisure time to relax and experience floating in its highly saline waters.
After your visit, continue south to Petra and check into your hotel for the night.
After breakfast, begin your exploration of Petra, Jordan's famous Nabataean rock-cut city.
Enter through the narrow Siq, which leads dramatically toward the Treasury. Continue past the Street of Facades and explore the Royal Tombs while learning about Petra with your local guide.
After the guided portion of the visit, you have additional time to explore independently. Travelers looking for a more active experience can continue toward Ad Deir, the Monastery, reached by a long stepped trail and offering impressive views over the surrounding landscape.
Return to your Petra hotel for your second overnight stay.
After breakfast, depart Petra for approximately a 1.5-hour drive to Wadi Rum Village.
Meet your camels and Bedouin guide and receive a short introduction to mounting and riding before beginning the camel trek.
Ride toward Lawrence's Spring, then continue through Wadi Um Ishrin and the area's distinctive sand dunes. Stop during the day for tea, lunch and rest.
In the afternoon, continue toward the Anfashiyeh inscriptions, Um Rashid Canyon and the area associated with Lawrence's House.
Later, reach the bivouac location where your desert camp is prepared. Tents, mattresses and blankets are provided.
Dinner is prepared at camp before your first night beneath the Wadi Rum sky.
Wake in the desert and enjoy breakfast before continuing your camel trek through the eastern and southern areas of Wadi Rum.
The day's route passes striking canyons and contrasting red and white sand dunes. Stop in a shaded location for lunch and a longer midday break before continuing the ride.
Later, reach Um Frouth Rock Bridge. Those who wish can make the short scramble to the top for panoramic views across Wadi Rum.
As the day comes to an end, establish the second private bivouac camp near the Um Frouth area and enjoy sunset over the desert.
After breakfast, continue deeper into Wadi Rum on the final full day of camel trekking.
Ride through Kashkasheh Canyon toward the Um Sabatah area, where naturally eroded rock formations shape the desert landscape.
After time to rest, continue by camel toward the natural Al Qatar Spring before reaching Khazali Canyon, known for rock inscriptions preserved within the canyon walls.
Tonight, instead of another bivouac, stay at a fixed Wadi Rum camp where bathroom facilities allow you to freshen up after several days in the desert.
Enjoy dinner and your final night in Wadi Rum.
After breakfast and lunch arrangements, leave Wadi Rum behind and travel north to Amman. The drive takes approximately four hours.
After reaching your Amman hotel, the rest of the day is free. You may relax, spend some time shopping, visit areas of downtown Amman independently or enjoy one of the city's cafés.
This relaxed afternoon gives you time to recover after the multi-day camel trek before your departure the following day.
Enjoy breakfast and lunch according to your departure schedule.
At the appropriate time, transfer from your Amman hotel to Queen Alia International Airport for your international departure.
This concludes your 8-day Jordan camel trekking adventure.
