Plan your trip with this Amman travel guide covering top sights, food, neighborhoods, transport, day trips, where to stay, and practical visitor tips.
Discover Jordan as a family on a well-planned 7-day private journey combining ancient cities, desert landscapes, historic sites and time by both the Dead Sea and Red Sea.
Your route begins in Amman before taking you to the Roman ruins of Jerash and the capital's historic downtown. Travel south through Mount Nebo, float in the Dead Sea and visit Shobak Castle before spending two nights in Petra. Explore the ancient Nabataean city with a local guide, then continue to Wadi Rum for a three-hour 4x4 desert experience and an overnight stay in a Martian-style tent.
The journey also includes leisure time by the Red Sea in Aqaba before returning to Amman. Private transportation, scheduled local guides, accommodation and airport transfers keep the logistics straightforward from arrival to departure.
Book your 7-Day Jordan Family Adventure Tour and experience Jordan's history, desert scenery and varied landscapes together.
Welcome to Jordan. After completing arrival formalities at Amman Airport, meet our representative outside customs, where assistance will be provided before your private transfer into Amman.
The drive to your hotel takes approximately 50 minutes. Check in at your 4-star hotel and spend the rest of the day at your own pace after your journey.
After breakfast, travel for approximately one hour to Jerash, one of Jordan's most significant ancient cities.
Enter the archaeological area and explore major remains from the Roman period, including Hadrian's Gate, the Oval Forum, the colonnaded street, Nymphaeum, Temple of Artemis, Temple of Zeus, ancient theatres and surviving church remains.
After your Jerash visit, return to Amman for lunch and continue exploring the historic center of the capital.
Visit Amman Citadel, where remains span several periods of Jordan's history, and enjoy wide views across the city. Continue to the Roman Theatre before walking into Amman's busy downtown souq.
The downtown experience offers a chance to see everyday local life, browse the traditional market streets and sample Jordanian flavors before returning to your hotel.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and check out before beginning your journey south.
Your first stop is Mount Nebo, overlooking the Jordan Valley and surrounding landscapes. Visit the remains of the early Christian church and monastery and see the site's historic mosaics.
Continue to the Dead Sea, located at the lowest land elevation on Earth. Spend time at an equipped beach where changing facilities and showers are available. Float in the highly saline water, experience the famous Dead Sea mud or simply relax beside the shore.
Lunch is included during today's journey.
Later, continue south to Shobak Castle, a Crusader-era fortress positioned on a hilltop, before completing the drive to Petra.
Arrive at your hotel, check in and settle in for the evening.
After breakfast, dedicate the day to exploring Petra, the ancient Nabataean city carved into the sandstone landscape.
Walk with your guide through the narrow Siq, Petra's dramatic natural entrance, before reaching its most recognized monument, Al-Khazneh, the Treasury.
Continue along the Street of Facades and discover more of Petra's rock-cut architecture, including the Urn Tomb, Silk Tomb, ancient Theatre and Grand Temple.
Your guided service concludes around the restaurant area, after which you have free time to continue exploring Petra independently before returning to your hotel.
Dinner is included today.
After breakfast, check out and travel approximately 1.5 hours south to Wadi Rum.
This protected desert landscape is known for its open valleys, sandstone mountains, canyons and red sand.
Explore Wadi Rum during a three-hour 4x4 Jeep tour, travelling through the desert to see sand dunes, rock formations, ancient Nabataean inscriptions, canyons and natural rock bridges.
After the desert tour, continue to your camp and settle into your Martian-style tent.
Enjoy dinner at the camp and spend the night surrounded by the Wadi Rum desert.
Enjoy breakfast at the camp before leaving Wadi Rum and driving approximately one hour to Aqaba, Jordan's Red Sea destination.
Spend around two hours enjoying leisure time at a beach along Aqaba's southern coast. This relaxed stop provides a change of pace after several days of archaeological and desert exploration.
After your time by the Red Sea, begin the approximately four-hour journey north to Amman.
Arrive at your hotel, check in and enjoy dinner before your final night in Jordan.
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and use your remaining time according to your flight schedule.
Hotel check-out is by 12:00. At the appropriate time, meet your driver for the approximately 50-minute private transfer from Amman to Queen Alia International Airport for your departure from Jordan.
Your 7-day Jordan family tour ends at the airport.
